1904 · Akron, Ohio
by CONGER, Emily Bronson
Akron, Ohio: Press Of Richard H. Leighton, 1904. First Edition. Signed presentation from Conger on the front endpaper: "Presented to Mrs. Thomas A. Baker by The Author, Mrs. Emily B. Conger. 1906-." With another presentation (appears to be in the same hand) on the bottom of the same page: "E.O. Clark from his Aunt- Mrs. A. Baker. 1908." Then, with another presentation (but not in Conger's hand) on the front pastedown: "To my Grandson, Kenyon B. Conger. Emily B. Conger. Akron, O. Nov. 1, 1904-." Apparently the book was passed around among family members. After her husband's death in 1899 Conger went to school in Missouri to study osteopathy and was one of the only women in the country to receive a degree in this field. She went on to become vice president of the American Assoc., of Osteopathy. This book is the story of her travels to help American soldiers and civilians in the Philippines as a nurse. Her grandfather founded the village of Peninsula, Pennsylvania. 8vo., black cloth, stamped in gilt; 168 pages. Illustrated With Photographs. Very Good (minor wear with only the slightest rubbing to the gilt; contents clean & tight).
