RICHMOND PEARSON HOBSON (1870-1937). Hobson was an admiral in the United States Navy and a congressman representing Alabama from 1905 to 1915. Throughout his tenure as a congressman he worked to expand the naval power of the United States. In 1933 he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his service in the Spanish-American War. ALS. 2pg. 4 ½” x 7”. May 21, 1902. Washington. An autograph letter signed “Richmond Pearson Hobson” on “The Army and Navy Club” letterhead. He wrote to Mrs. Heywood: “Thank you very much for your note and for the catalogue that have duly reached me. I have examined the plans and think they are admirable. You are to be congratulated on having entered your boy whether he wishes to go into the navy or not.” The letter is in fine condition except for a fold separation along the second page that affects the closing, but not the signature.
