Red cloth back, marbled boards, paper spine label. Offsetting from facsimiles (as usual), else a very fine copy. Essays on the beginning of the printing press in California. Covers the first printing press in Monterey; the "Old Ames" press, brought to San Diego in 1850; and Sam Brannan's press, brought around the Horn with him in 1846. The facsimiles include a document printed in Monterey in 1834, an issue of The Illustrated San Diego Herald for 1853, and an issue of The California Star for 1847. [Grabhorn: 459]..
