A Paris, 1664. Full Leather. Very Good binding. The Fourth Edition of The Works of Lucian, translated by Nicolas Perrot; complete in two volumes. Lucian of Samosata, the second century Syrian satirist, was best known for his extensive use of sarcasm to ridicule superstitious and religious beliefs. Text in French. Vignette on the title pages; engraved headpieces, tailpieces, and initials. Lacking an engraved frontispiece, else collates complete. Vol. I: [22], 550, [26] pp. Vol. II: [8], 603, [33] pp. Front joints discretely repaired by a conservator, with japanese tissue; clear tape reinforcing the front hinge of Volume II; contemporary owners' names in ink on the front endpapers and flyleaf; some shelfwear to the leather binding and minor creasing to the spine. Full calf with red leather labels on the spines, and double rules in blind on the boards. All edges speckled in red and black. Very Good binding.
