Bibliographic references (pages 287-293), Index. Robert B. Stanton's work was the next important study after that of John Wesley Powell. His was an engineering survey for a projected railroad which would run from Grand Junction, Colorado to San Diego, which had it been followed would have had smoke-tracks in the Grand Canyon but his surveys were ill-fated with several deaths and it ended up not as a scientific survey but a daring deed followed by a succession over the years of dauntless river runners. A handsome near fine copy bound in full brown leather, lettering stamped in gray,. Very nice.
