Printed on rice paper, additional title on verso of front cover printed on red rice paper, with title in Dutch and Japanese and a small woodcut vignette of a schoolmaster chastising students in a classroom, verso of back cover with Japanese imprint, and ownership chop at lower right. 8vo (260 x 180 mm). Original stitched cream paper wrappers, vertical title label to upper cover. Long razor cut through the cover and first two leaves, otherwise fine. Japanese Woodcut text of the Dutch original. The scarce first syntax of the Dutch language printed in Japan, here with the woodcut text in italic freehand. Genpo was a well known Dutch scholar who introduced Dutch learning to Japan, this printed at a time when such work could well have been banned or burned.
