1891 · Washington, D.C.
by Boynton, (Gen.) Henry V.
Washington, D.C.: G.R. Gray, Printer, 1891. Octavo. 2nd edition with corrections. 54 pages. Still one of the best firsthand accounts of the campaign. There was an 1888 edition but the map was wrong. First, it left off that Forrest's Cavalry was just above Reed's Bridge. Second, it had both Vanderveer and Steedman in the wrong direction. Whether this is why the original printer, Clarkson, was left out of the corrected edition is not clear. General Boynton was one of the three commisisoners who made the final planning of the historical monuments commemorating the battles. Col. John Tweedale, who won a Medal of Honor in the Civil War who served in the 15th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry at Stones River, Tennessee, has signed the title page with a note he is with the War Department.
