Caneyville, Kentucky: Self-published, 1891. Cloth. Near Fine. A sharp, well-preserved copy of the uncommon 1891 1st edition. Tight and Near Fine in its deep-red cloth, with bright gilt-titling (and decorative bordering) along the front panel and spine. 12mo, includes chapters such as "Woman in the Garden", "Christian and Pagan Womanhood", "By What Authority", "My Call to the Ministry", etc. A brave, late 19th century, self-published call (from rural Kentucky, no less) for the promotion of women in the ministry and an increasinlgly visible role for women as preachers. A nice example of challenging late 19th century Southern religious doctrine....and, in a broader sense, a nice piece of late 19th century Americana. (Inventory #: 16499)
