[New York]: Asia Society, 2004. Softcover. VG. Owner's writing on first page, otherwise clean.. Oblong, color-illustrated wraps; gray spine with white lettering; French flaps. 93 pp. Dozens of plates and illustrations, mainly in color. Exhibition held at tje Asia Society Museum from January 13 - June 27, 2004. "The size and therefore space requirements of Japanese folding screens for display and storage make it relatively harder to form a collection in comparison to other painting formats, such as handscrolls or hanging scrolls, which roll up compactly. Consequently it tends to be mainly museums that possess holdings of screens. Nonetheless, there are a number of individuals in New York who have built collections, persuaded of the very particular qualities of these large-scale works. Within these collections, there are many examples of the themes featured in this exhibition: narrative -- the lives of people and evocative scenes of nature." -- Acknowledgements by Buckland.
