Previous owner's name signed on front endpaper "John Burns Nov 12, 1919." In 1919, Andrew Carnegie left John Elliott Burns (1858-1943) an annuity of 1000 pounds. Burns, having retired from politics, pursued his hobbies until his death, which included book collecting.
