London: R. Manby, 1757. First edition. On his way to relieve the garrison on Minorca during the Seven Years War, Byng was surprised by the French fleet. After an indecisive engagement with the French he retreated without making any effort to resupply the garrison. With public and official opinion against him, Byng was found guilty of dereliction of his duties, and was executed. See DNB. NMM V, part 1, 1168.
