One of the first in-depth histories of advertising photography. Includes 187 illustrations, including 81 plates in full color. Some of the great photographers have made photographs for advertisements including; Edward Steichen, Paul Outerbridge, Jr., Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, August Sander, Lewis Hine, Herbert Matter, Richard Avedon, and Annie Leibovitz, to name just a few. Some iconic examples are: Jim Braddy's Marlboro Man, to Kazuo Kawai's elegant study of water beads for a computer company, to Ansel Adams' panoraamic photograph of Yosemite Valley, wrapped around a three-pound coffee can.
