Though Accum's treatise stands alone as an important compendium of chemistry informed by, and incorporating, the modern theories of Lavoisier and Thomson it is here present with the important additions - in two appendices - of the American polymath Thomas Cooper. Cooper, who was teaching at Dickinson College in Carlisle PA at this time, takes the opportunity of his assignment as editor to address the new theories of Lavoisier and the atomic theory of Dalton (via Thomson). It is a landmark in American chemistry. Rink #675; Cole #10a; see Neville p. 10.
