An autograph letter signed Wm Bacon Stevens as Episcopal Bishop of Pennsylvania. On official Diocese of Pennsylvania letterhead, Stevens wrote to a Lyle about a report that had something to do with a mission to educate Chinese or Chinese-Americans. Dear Dr. Lyle I have just finished reading your report & am very much pleased with it. I think that it ought to be published & hence I return it to you for that purpose. Permit me however to make one or two suggestions. Would it not be well to omit that portion of it on pp 9, 9 & 10 beginning more recently however & ending with the Chinese are most addicted as such a description might prejudice some people against them? Again would it not be well to state how many Chinese are here in such a number of Laundries I think Mr. Latimer said some 80 & also state fact as to the readiness of the Pupils to learn, the good effect already resulting from such teaching & the special needs of this mission to give it more effectiveness.
