Middlesex Railroad Rules

Broadside. 7 ¾" x 10 ¼"; pale yellow card stock with black printing; light creasing to corners, light soiling to front surface; very good. Broadside was issued by Capt. Proctor (1824-1910, Worcester County, Massachusetts) while Superintendent of the Middlesex Street Railroad Co. located in Boston. He was elected Superintendent of the RR company in 1858. He was appointed as a commissioner to examine the Union Pacific Railroad in 1864 by President Abraham Lincoln and made several trips to California during its construction. He was instrumental in securing the charters for the Central and Union Pacific Railroads from Congress as well as the street railway in Washington D.C. He also organized and built the railway in Philadelphia. Proctor was also a successful businessman and hotelier.
