St. Louis: published by the author, 1866. First and only edition, 12mo, pp. xv, [1], 297; this copy without the tipped in albumen frontispiece portrait which is in some copies; spine sunned, top edge waterstained, good, sound copy in orig. brown cloth. In 1858 the author settled in Douglas County on the shores of Lake Ida, 160 miles northwest of St. Paul, in the vicinity of present-day Alexandria. Here, he met and befriended one Andreas Darling and his wife. Because of the Sioux Massacres, Coloney moved to Missouri, and was followed, at Coloney's invitation, by Darling, where Darling was given charge of managing Coloney's farm.
