ß Both formats of the first edition of BenÈt's warning against the perils of fascism, published a year before the United States entered the war. BenÈt died of a heart attack the year before the war ended. He was awarded a posthumous Pulitzer for Western Star, a poem about the settling of America that was unfinished on his death.
