Lettering on blue ownership stamp on front page is mostly gone or at least obscured. Carnall was accused having aided and assisted the escape of William Edwards, while the latter was in custody under sentence of transportation to New South Wales. As a result Carnall was banished from the Colony of Cape Of Good Hope for five years. Carnall petitioned Lord Bathurst, Secretary of State for War and the Colonies, asking that Bathurst order remission of Carnall's sentence. Bathurst declined. (Inventory #: 90104)
