Large format, 9” x 11 1/4”, 256 pages, illustrated with over 1,000 photos. With a comic drawing by Al Hirschfeld of Laurel & Hardy illustrating the front cover. A slightly dust soiled copy with some minor fading to the cloth in a lightly dust soiled dust jacket with fading to the spine and some small chips and tears. Raymond Rohauer (1924 - 1987) was a film curator at the Gallery of Modern Art in New York. Beginning his collection at a young age, Mr. Rohauer went on to found the Hollywood Film Society whose members included such notables as D.W. Griffith, Fritz Lang, and Jean Renoir. Rohauer also established meaningful partnerships with Buster Keaton (rescuing some of Keaton’s silent films from being lost), Mrs. Harry Langdon, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., and others committed to the distribution and restorations of features and shorts that went unseen for many years.
