Claudio Arteaga Infante, also known as "Clarín", was a writer and journalist who wrote for El Mercurio, La Nación and Las Últimas Noticias on a wide variety of topics, including education, alcoholism, hygiene, women, and gambling. Virgilio Figueroa describes him as "a scholar and an indefatigable observer of national life." He was directly involved in politics at the end of the in the first two decades of the 20th century resulting in his books Los problemas internos de Chile (1919), Observaciones sobre la cuestión social chilena (1920) y La mujer chilena esclava de la ley (1922), con prólogo de Inés Echeverría Bello (Iris).
