Home on a Furlough, a Sketch from Real Life

By A Civil War tale used to advertise a Civil War engraving in 1864
(CIVIL WAR FICTION). Home on a Furlough, a Sketch from Real Life. Philadelphia: Bradley & Co.; Rochester, N. Y.: R. H. Curran. [c1864] 15, [1] p. Terra-cotta wrappers. Stained throughout, but respectable.

Advertising a Civil War steel engraving, "Home on a Furlough," published by Bradley & Co. of Philadelphia. The text contains a Civil War tale that is entirely different from the tale in the edition of almost the same title, Home on a Furlough, a Sketch of Real Life, with the imprint "Springfield, Mass. Published by W. J. Holland. 1864" (see Wright II, 1254). The copyright and stereotyper's name is identical in both editions and printed from the same type, but the text following is entirely different. Were they using a different text to sell the same print in different parts of the country?
