Dr. Eben Tourjée (1834-1891) and Robert Goldbeck founded the New England Conservatory of Music. Tourjée was an organist, choral conductor and music educator. In 1873 he became Dean of the of Music at the newly established Boston University. He was active in organizing large choral gospel and peace sings in Boston. NEC online.
