The obituary for Lewis A. Goudy of Portland Maine appeared in the January 1922 issue of The Cracker Baker, Vol. XI, p. 59 and summarized the story of his business life as both a cracker baker and confectioner. Edward W. Kent became a partner in 1886 and retired in 1891. A business disaster in 1892 led to Goudy re-establishing his company as Goudy & Kent. In 1898 the business was sold to the National Biscuit Company, founded that same year.
