First edition of About's memoirs of his travel to an Egypt under the reign of Ismail the Magnificent (Ismail-Pacha), in the 1860s.

The author claims to be the friend of Ismail-Pacha, and this work is his description of the fellah (native paesant) at work for the powerful Khedive of Egypt and Sudan.

Binding partly age-toned and rubbed along edges. Original wrappers sunned. Minor and sporadic foxing throughout.

Ex-library copy, with reference sticker at upper front joint and tail of spine, stamp at top and bottom paper edges, bookplate on inside of front cover and pocket at rear. Text in French. Binding in overall good, interior in very good condition.
