London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown and Green, 1830. First Edition. Octavo. 16pp. Publishers catalog dated March 1831 and that lists 117 published items omitting this title indicating it was already out-of-print. half-title, 126 pages, [the second p. 87] addenda et corrigenda [xxi], [2]pp. index. The first in-depth account of the First Anglo-Burmese war (1824-1826). Though it was the longest and most expensive war in British Indian history, it ended with a British victory with the Treaty of Yandabo. Page 121 lists all those officers who received promotions during the war. The index lists the officers of the Royal Navy, the Bombay Marine, Flottilla; King's Army a list of 221 names. A unique copy not only with Lt. Marshall's cancellans page but also bound in at the near end of the text is the original cancellandum(p.87). Not only has he cited Snodgrass's Narrative of the Burmese War (published in 1827) but also added names and deleted some. Furthermore, he has changed some of the statistical reports as well as an omission in the index alongside small variations which will be of interest to historians. [We have written a three-page detailed study which will be available upon request to scholars]. Since nothing had yet been published, Lt. Marshall decided to print the 1830 copy with the plan to add it later into the Royal Naval Biography as an appendix. Very scarce in the original paper boards. Although not previously noted in the scholarly literature, a previous bookseller had noted the collation issue in pencil at G7. Bound in original paper boards, paper spine label worn. The unique page 87 has a closed tear of approximately 2 inches to the bottom margin.
