Edinbugrh: Balfour and Clarke, 1822. Small Octavo. xii, 228 pages. 3rd edition [see title page] "to which are now added selections from the letters of Corporal Meuller of the First Regiment of Foot Guards describing the attack on Bergen-op-Zoom. The publisher notes that after publishing the work through two editions, the demand was for Meuller's first hand account while serving under General Thomas Graham to the disaster at Bergen-op-Zoom. As they approached in an old captured frigit the more expereinced soldiers told Corporal Meuller it was too small a force for such a landed assault but as is often typical General Graham and others did not consult those of lower rank. He describes the severe injuries of their force and how many became prisones of the French. A small but important first hand account. Bound in 3/4 maroon morocco over cloth covered boards, raised bands, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, marbled endpapers, some rubbing to foot of spine, two rubbed and darkened spots to upper board, sticker to front free pastedownA very good copy.
