In the late 1970's the city of Buenos Aires organized an architectural remodeling competition for the transformation of the former public nursery and senior residence "Hogar Gobernador Viamonte" into a cultural center that would house the museums of the city. The winners were Clorindo Testa (b. Italy 1923), Jaques Bedel (b. Buenos Aires 1947) and Luis F. Benedit (b. Buenos Aires 1937), three architects and artists who intervened the 18th century building to create what is today known as the Centro Cultural Recoleta. Thirty years later the center honors the legacy and artistic creations of the three architects who developed the project that safeguarded the Franciscan convent and cloister adapting the heterogeneous space into a coherent location for art exhibitions and other cultural activities.
