"This was a poem about this poor girl who didn't have enough to wear. And, of course, she had closets full of clothes, but not just the right thing that she wanted." Vance Gerry and the Weather Bird Press, p. 17, where Vance talks about his relationship with Jim Lorson. This humorous poem first appeared in Harper's Weekly, February 7, 1857. The author was a lawyer by trade, but diverted himself by writing.
