Costain, is best known for his historical novels, and especially the film adaptations of his The Black Rose (1950) starring Orson Welles and Tyrone Power, and The Silver Chalice starring Paul Newman, Virginia Mayo, Pier Angeli, and Jack Palance. Unbeknownst to many, Costain was the head of film studio 20th Century Fox’s bureau of literary development (story department) from 1934 to 1942. The contract engages Costain’s “...services in writing and/or assisting and/or collaborating in the writing of stories, adaptations, continuities, scenarios or dialogue, and services in a consulting capacity with respect to photoplays....” Fine condition.
