Tumanyan (1869 - 1923) was an author, translator, journalist, activist, and the national poet of Armenia. He was arrested twice, for trying to negotiate peace during the Armenian-Tatar Massacres of 1905-1907. He also founded the House of Armenian Art in 1921.
