An uncorrected proof of the author's first book. Laid in is a TLS from Ted Solotaroff to Gilbert Sorrentino dated November 3, 1986 on the publisher's letterhead which reads: "Dear Gil / I think that Jim Crace is a writer you'll find you have / a real affinity with. He writes about a "seventh" continent that he has invented, a Third world of the imagin- / ation. Though this is Crace's first book, it has been / having a major impact in England, and I'm hoping for the / same effect here -- more than hoping.
