Miami, 2010. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. 32pp., French accordion binding with 16 folded pages, 6x6", housed in Fabriano paper jacket. Title printed in black on a front cover, in an edition of 75 signed and numbered, each with twelve archival pigment prints, tipped in. Designed, printed and assembled by the artist using Fabriano and Canson papers. A continuation of Dakhnovskaia-Lawtons project Wondering about Pictorialism done on a more accessible scale, including twelve new images. This strategy unifies the intimacy of the image and the format of the book into a new, contemporary approach. Dakhnovskaia-Lawtons inspiration was originally drawn from the 19th century pictorial aesthetic and Stieglitzs Camera Work magazine, as she embarked on a long journey in trying not only to comprehend the intricacy of the old-fashioned aesthetic but also in an attempt to bring it into contemporary life. In this project, by emphasizing the small image scale along with the pictorial language and using a muted monochrome tone of photogravures, the artist successfully creates a personal connection between image and viewer - bringing the old sensibility into our everyday life.
