The second edition of this significant analysis of the work and dramatic philosophy of renowned modernist Russian theater director and actor Yevgeny Vakhtangov (1883-1922), and his theater company. The first published work to provide a critical overview and analysis of Vakhtangov's career and an examination of his acting and directing theories (originally in 1927), its author Boris Zakhava, an acclaimed soviet actor, director, teacher and theorist, was himself a student and colleague of Vakhtangov. Contains several b/w photographic reproductions of original images showing stage performances of the company, as well as a photographic portrait of Vakhtangov (at the front). Bibliography in Russian and ther Romnce languages on p.188-199. 1 of 3000 copies.

Binding with some rubbing and chipping to extremities, including the spine. Some scratches, sunning and minor staining to the covers. Remnants of a paper label on the bottom of the covers and the tail of the spine. Interior with some minor rippling to the top of a few initial and final pages. Minor creasing to the top corners of a few other pages throughout. Book block quite tight overall. Binding in good-, interior in very good condition overall.
