Scene on the Upper Mississippi (Am Ober-Mississippi)

New York: published by Enshel, Adler & Sons, 94 Fulton Street, 1860. Hand-colored lithograph approx. 24½" x 20" (by sight, not examined out of frame); fine example with strong coloring; attractively matted and in a classic white frame. The steamboats Diana and Baltic are running side by side on a moon-lit night. A similar version with the same title was published in Berlin by F. Sala & Co. In that version, the raft in the foreground is not at a landing but rather under way, the smoke from the steamboats' stacks goes to the left, and there is no third steamboat in the distance. Adam Weingartner also made another similar lithograph in 1859 showing what is now a "race" between the Baltic and the Diana, smoke going to the left, the raft further out into the river and three steamboats in the distance.
