B&W illustration on each sheet. A set of photographically illustrated sheets depicting a variety of works of art held by New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. Each sheet also includes text describing the musical and historical contexts and backgrounds of each illustration. Among the topics discussed are harp players, the medieval fiddle and cross flute, a 16th-century German wood sculpture of an angel playing a lute, the organ, a 17th-century French engraving of a music party, the harpsichord, and more. Also included is a sheet with a brief history of musical instruments.
