by Lucius Iulius Florus; Velleius, Paterculus; Sextus Aurelius Aurelius Victor; Sextus Rufus Festus; Messala Messalla Corvinus
Amsterodami: Guibel Janß, 1625. Hardcover. 32mo., 524 pages; VG: bound in early full brown leather, newer black in lettering to spine; boards double-ruled in blind, board edges ruled in gilt; interior clean; engraved title page with ornamental border; shelved case 3. Florus, presumably born in Africa, lived in both Spain and Rome during Hadrian's time. He wrote a summary of Roman history, concentrating on wars, to show the greatness and decline of Roman morals. While it may have been planned to reach the era in which he wrote, it consists of the history of Rome from the foundation of the city to the closing of the temple of Janus by Augustus in 25 BCE. This Epitome is a useful rapid sketch of Roman military history. 1310699. Shelved Dupont Bookstore.
