First printing of this book and the earliest appearance of the mischievous monkey 'Curious George'. It was not published in America until three years later as Cecily G and the Nine Monkeys (1942). This first book was created by the husband and wife team of Hans Augusto and Margret Rey (who were living in Paris at the time), In 1940, due to WWII, the Reys escaped Paris and circuitously found their way to New York. In 1941 Houghton Mifflin published Curious George, and the book has never been out of print. They subsequently created another five books featuring George and his brethren. (Inventory #: VBF30)
