In these seventeen years, history has continued at its relentless place, bringing inevitable change with its inventory of good and bad... From Preface: This book is an attempt to tell the story of Tarpon Springs, Florida, in a series of historical essays with pictures. have had in mind the general reader, the newcomers, and the visitor, as well as the people who have lived here all their lives and know the subject better than I. A shorter book would be less than adequate; a longer one might have too much detail and would certainly have cost more. My information has come from books, newspapers, government documents, and many personal interviews. Valuable aids have been Robert F. Pent’s History of Tarpon Springs, and George T. Frantzis’ Strangers at Ithaca. People have been generous in providing photographs and in sharing their recollections; I am especially indebted to members of the Tarpon Springs Area Historical Society, Inc., and to many others who have given their time and thought and courteous consideration...
