NY: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1901. First Edition. Signed presentation from White on the front endpaper: "For Mr. & Mrs. E.C. Franklin with the best wishes in all the world, W.A. White. Emporia Kansas, 10-27-1091." Edward Curtis Franklin [1862-1927] taught chemistry at Stanford University and was president of the American Chemical Society in 1923, the first from Stanford. He grew up in Kansas and got his degrees in chemistry at Kansas University, where he met his wife, Effie Scott. Both were good friends of William Allen White, a famous Kansan. This is White's fourth book. Also laid in is a small snapshot photograph that appears to be of White with his wife (Salle) or possibly with Effie Franklin (few creases photo with repair on verso with clear archival tape). 12mo., tan cloth, stamped in gilt; 291 pages; top edge gilt. Illustrated.. Very Good (very light fading to of front cover & light stain on right edge, little bubbling cloth to rear cover, gilt is bright; contents clean & tight).
