by HEARN, George A.
NY: Privately Printed by The Gilliss Press, 1908. First Edition. In 1908, Hearn self-published this catalogue of his collection- one that would probably be unable to be accumulated today. "The George A. Hearn Collection of Carved Ivories" is a lavishly photographed compendium, privately-printed at an exorbitant cost. Much of his collection, including works by Winslow Homer, Childe Hassam, John Singer Sargent and Whistler, were donated to the Metropolitan Museum of Art following his death. The book has 29 pages of text and 261 pages of black-and-white photographs. Tiny in name of "Henry G. Davidson, 1909" on a front blank page. Small quarto: black quarter-morocco leather & marbled boards, marbled endpapers. Photographs made expressly for this catalogue by Mr. Charles Balliard.. Very Good (little edgewear; front cover professionally reattached; contents clean & tight).
