With a gift inscription from Amey Carter, to her son William: "Presented (truncated) him by her, on his departure for China in the ship Arthur of Providence, August 1806." Amey was the wife of John Carter, Rhode Island printer and one-time apprentice to Ben Franklin. Her son William was a merchant involved in the China trade.
