Inscribed by Frank Bullen to Miss Emily Hensley on the front pastedown, with an autograph letter signed (ALS) by Bullen laid in. Bullen dedicated his first book, The Cruise of the Cachalot (1898), to Hensley. Novel about missionary work in the Rotherhithe district of south-east London. Bullen (1857-1915) was a merchant seaman whose second career as a clerk in the Meteorological Office enabled him to develop the abilities that made him a successful writer and columnist at the turn of the last century. Octavo. Original blue cloth binding, with gilt and white titles. Minor dust staining to the top edge. The spine is a bit faded, with some rubbing along the extremities; else very good.
