Los Angeles: Continental, 1967. Vintage reference photograph of director Joseph Strick and screenwriter Fred Haines on the set of the 1967 film, leaning against a car, examining a copy of their screenplay and a copy of "Ulysses" side by side on the car's roof. With two printed mimeo snipes affixed to the verso, crediting both men also as producers.
The first film adaptation of James Joyce's influential modernist novel, and one of the only adaptations to take its dialogue directly from the book. The film came under heavy threat of censorship due to profane (for the time) language, and was given an X rating in the UK after Strick refused to edit out any of the "offending" passages. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay, shared by Strick and Haines.
Set in Dublin, Ireland, and shot there on location.
