Anne Gauthier (Anouk Aimee) and Jean-Louis Duroc (Trintignant) meet as they drop their children off at boarding school and quickly become friends. As romance develops, they each reveal that they have lost a spouse and are still grieving, complicating the blossoming relationship. Lelouch would make a sequel "A Man and a Woman: 20 Years Later," in 1986, as well as another follow up film "The Best Years of a Life," in 2019, both still starring Aimee and Trintignant.
