Laughlin (1873-1941) was the author of more than 35 books, headed a Travel Service with offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Paris, and published a monthly magazine with a circulation of more than 80,000. Octavo, bound by Sickles in burgundy levant, with the monogram of Charles Edward Ballard, hotelier and circus owner, gilt-stamped on the upper panel, gilt-decorated spine, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt, 450 pp. Frontis portrait. Rev. Dr. John Henry Barrows was a clergyman, an author, the chairman of the 1893 General Committee on the Congress of Religions, and the president of Oberlin College. He advocated for increased study of religions and clarifying the misconceptions about varying religious traditions. His work emphasized tolerance and understanding between all nations and religions.
