The stone for this lithograph was originally drawn in black, as were the other three lithographs in the series. However, the publisher, Andre Sauret, asked Picasso if he would add a little color to the image. Picasso had a box of crayons in 24 different colors and used each of them to color this image. Much to his surprise, the Mourlot studio printers succeeded in the difficult task of printing all 24 colors plus black. This explains the two dates on this print. The black version was done 6.3.61 and the colors added 21.4.61 (Inventory #: 2704)
