From the collection of soprano Lya Beyer, with her name stamped in gilt to lower corner of upper board.

With performance markings in red and blue pencil and annotations in lead pencil. Small label of Viennese binder Alois Veith to verso of front free endpaper.

Binding slightly worn, rubbed, and bumped; spine slightly frayed. Minor wear and browning; old tape repairs to inner margin of title. First Edition, later issue.

"[Zeller's] greatest success was achieved with the operetta Der Vogelhändler (1891), which revived the fortunes of Viennese operetta during the 1890s. Supported by a richness of melodic invention and fine handling of the voice and ensemble numbers, it has remained one of the classics of the genre." Andrew Lamb in Grove Music Online.
