Photograph of a Railroad-car Building Yard
1900 · S. l.
by Anonymous
S. l. : s. n., 1900. Very good. Silver gelatine photograph, n. d. (ca 1900 - a small, penciled-in manuscript note on verso "1900 - 1910"); mounted on a card stock mat; photo 5 x 7, mat 10 x 12; image with minor age-toning and wear - in very good to near fine condition; mat with small chips to corners - in good to very good condition.A bit of a mystery, the photograph presumably depicted a crew at a lumber yard, or part of a rail yard, where material for train cars was manufactured. The two visible rails, mounted on concrete piers, were most probably previously-scrapped tracks - repurposed to be used for stacking lumber. Although, most of the men looked to be middle-aged and even older, the first and the thrid ones from the bottom right appeared to be boys, no older than 10. (Inventory #: 002902)
