New York: The Macmillan Company. Very Good. 1928. First Edition. Hardcover. (no dust jacket) [a good sound copy with only light shelfwear, spine and front cover lettering a bit dulled; apparently this book was part of a private library of some sort, as there is a hand-fashioned label and card affixed to the front endpaper (but no other library markings); there is also a brief gift inscription on the half-title page, and the book is rubber-stamped there and on the rear endpaper with a one-time owner's (or seller's?) name and address: Kashuzan Nichirenji, 809[?] East First Street, Los Angeles, California (with the name also rendered in Japanese lettering)]. (color frontispiece, illustrated endpapers) Novel for juvenile readers, set in pre-Gold Rush California, by a Canadian-born historian and author who wrote numerous adventure tales for children, and was also responsible for inaugurating the popular "Rivers of America" series. .
