Claude Buffier (1661-1737) was a Jesuit priest who was born in Poland of French parents. Returning to France shortly after his birth, he was educated in Rouen but spent his life at the Jesuit college in Paris. He was a philosopher, historian and educator. Encyclopaedia Britannica.
